Why Child Counselling Is Vital?

Writer: modernmindsausmodernmindsaus

There is an increase in understanding of the mental health problems that affect children and adolescents. The effects of some unfortunate conditions and experiences on children's day-to-day lives and futures are underappreciated and unknown. It is important to remember that every child is unique and should seek Child counselling when considering if they need it.

Childhood is a significant turning point in everyone's lives. Everything that occurs at that time has a direct bearing on how they perform as adults. A child's diagnosis isn't always straightforward, but 73.8% of children aged 3-17 with depression also have an anxiety diagnosis. All children will react differently to experiencing a traumatic event, but in most cases, professional help eases the stress and teaches children and adolescents how to process such events.

Bullying is an unfortunate occurrence in schools and even within a child's friendship group, and can have a negative impact on a child's self-confidence, self-image, and physical harm. A Child & Adolescence Counsellor can help speak to a child and provide assistance in terms of teaching them to manage their anxiety or depression, as well as advising parents on how best to support their child going forward. Aggression, anxiety, academic decline, and substance abuse indicate that they could benefit from seeking professional help.

Some children can understand their own feelings, verbalize how they feel and manage them, while others struggle to self-regulate their emotions and behaviours, leading to an inability to develop social skills. Child therapy helps children develop self-esteem and confidence, decrease anxiety and depression, develop a healthy sense of self, and increase social competencies.

The Child Counsellor builds a relationship of trust with the child, allowing them to freely express themselves and gain awareness and understanding of the inner-self. The therapist is usually creative in delivering the intervention, as creativity is the medium children use to communicate.
